Project Proposal:
Lord Fairfax Community College: Online Instruction Certification Program

Prepared by: Lauren Boyd, Chad Phillips, Kanita Shepherd

Clientele:
The client for this project will be Dr. Karen Kellison, the Associate Dean of Instructional Technology in addition to creating product that will be part of the “Knowledge Center at Lord Fairfax Community College.”

Intended Audience (Learner Analysis):
The audience for this project will be adjunct faculty members at Lord Fairfax Community College. Furthermore, we will be focusing on those professors whom primarily teach courses online. Learning participants will consist of diverse backgrounds, with the main commonality being their occupation and qualifications in higher education.

Context:
In order for professors to be able to teach courses online, they must go through a series of training programs to attain certification for online instruction. Additionally, the current onboarding process for all adjunct faculty is long and tiresome, consisting of a several hour long meeting in the evening, at the beginning of each semester. Dr. Kellison believes that most, if not all, of this context could be held in online instructional courses for new adjunct faculty to review.

Proposed Instructional Solution:
After discussing further with Dr. Kellison, our team will begin to break down the information given to adjunct faculty during the onboarding process into smaller modules with like topics. Once we have a better break down of the material to be covered we will begin to storyboard each topical area. Each topical area will have a course of instruction with a testing component to it. In order for adjunct faculty to be fully on-boarded to Lord Fairfax Community College, they will be required to accrue an 80% or higher completion rate. Those who will become certified in online teaching will have additional courses to complete in order for them to be aware of online course policies, procedures and software.
